Linear change and minutes variability of solar wind velocity revealed by FAST

چکیده

Observation of Interplanetary Scintillation (IPS) provides an important and effective way to study the solar wind space weather. A series IPS observations were conducted by Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The extraordinary sensitivity wide frequency coverage make FAST ideal platform for studies. In this paper we present some first scientific results from with L-band receiver. Based on velocity fitting values September 26-28, 2020, found that decreases increasing linearly, which has not yet been reported in literature. And have also detected a variation timescale 3-5 minutes, imply slow change background wind, co-existence high- low-speed streams, or reflect quasi-periodic electron-density fluctuations.

Mars ionospheric response to solar wind variability

[1] At planets with induced magnetospheres, the coupling between the ionosphere, the weak draped magnetosphere, and the solar wind is very direct in comparison to Earth. The weak induced magnetosphere itself is created by the prevailing Solar wind conditions and therefore in its shape and strength dynamically depending on it. In early 2010, Mars was located behind Earth in the Solar wind; thus,...

Why Is the Fast Solar Wind Fast and the Slow Solar Wind Slow? a Survey of Geometrical Models

Four decades have gone by since the discovery that the solar wind at 1 AU seems to exist in two relatively distinct states: slow and fast. There is still no universal agreement concerning the primary physical cause of this apparently bimodal distribution, even in its simplest manifestation at solar minimum. In this presentation we review and extend a series of ideas that link the different stat...

Origins of the slow and the ubiquitous fast solar wind

We present in this Letter the first coordinated radio occultation measurements and ultraviolet observations of the inner corona below 5.5 Rs, obtained during the Galileo solar conjunction in January 1997, to establish the origin of the slow solar wind. Limits on the flow speed are derived from the Doppler dimming of the resonantly scattered component of the oxygen 1032 Å and 1037 Å lines as mea...
